“The Oscar Schmidt OS45B is a great mid-level 15 chord autoharp. This autoharp is a very popular among 15 chord autoharp due to the unique design of the sound hole. The OS45 series of autoharps is the only autoharp to have a unique sound hole design.
The top of the Oscar Schmidt OS45B is made from solid spruce and the back is made from maple. Solid spruce is a traditional standard in the construction of most stringed instruments. The maple back helps complement the spruce and helps save you some money on the cost of the instrument. The OS45B features a glossy finish that helps protect the instrument over years of playing. The only downside of the glossy finish is, that it will slightly dampen the sound of the instrument as it is a thicker finish.
The chord bars on the OS45B are wider, which means that there is a wider felt that will dampen the strings when the chord button is pressed down. One great aspect of the 15 chord autoharps is the ability to see the instrument working as you press down on each chord bars. The way the chord bars are constructed allows gives them a great life span over many years of playing.
The OS45B is built the same way as the rest of the Oscar Schmidt autoharps. The frame of the autoharp is built from rock maple and is tied into a 10 ply block of rock maple. The block of rock maple will securely hold in your tuning pegs. Rock maple is a very strong wood, the strength of the rock maple block is from the crisscrossing of the grain of each layer of rock maple. This construction technique will make sure that the tuning pegs will be held securely. The sound hole on the OS45B is large enough to provide enough air space to provide great acoustic sounds.

Unique Design This is the only Oscar Schmidt autoharp featuring a beautiful flower shaped sound hole, creating an elegant look to a classic. Additionally, the sound hole design is made only for looks and it won't affect the sound of the music.
Gloss Finish The gloss finish not only provides an added layer of protection, it also affects the vibrations, creating a slightly lower sound. |

High Quality Material From the spruce top to the maple back, you can be assured that this autoharp will last. It is built for added strength. The select spruce, which is a laminated sheet of spruce wood, resists splitting and cracking. The lengthwise grains are straight, close and dense which provide excellent support.

Incredible Strength The pin blocks in many of the finest autoharps consist of hard rock maple for extra strength. The pin blocks are laminated 10 ply rock maple pin blocks meaning they are specially coated for extra strength. The purpose of the pin block is to firmly hold the tuning pins in place where the strings are attached. The added strength of the laminated rock maple ensures that everything will stay in the right place.
Multiple layers of maple laminations are cross-banded using a special high frequency, waterproof gluing process. Reversing the grain direction on each layer of lamination yields incredible strength and the high-frequency waterproof glue seals the laminations protecting the pin block from changes in the relative humidity.
The Autoharp, like the piano, is a tempered scale, so the same string is used in several chords, even when perfectly in tune in one chord may sound slightly sharp or flat in another. Over time as strings loosen, use fine tuning to tighten so it can reach its limits. The first twang of a string is higher and the tone settles in after a second. Turn the tuner to 442 and attach the clip to the middle peg.

History
“An American instrument of American invention.”
The Autoharp is one of the few musical instruments that can claim to be truly American in origin.
Invented in 1881 and patented in 1882, the Autoharp has had a remarkable hundred-year history. After being proclaimed “the nation’s favorite musical instrument” and then nearly fading into obscurity, the Autoharp has taken its manufactures on an endless roller coaster of ups and downs. As a nineteenth century parlor room favorite, it was finally replaced in popularity by the phonograph. The Autoharp did not die. It retreated to the mountains where it underwent a metamorphosis from a parlor instrument to a folk instrument. From there it came out into our schools to become a classroom feature, and finally has emerged as a popular instrument for the serious musician.
